These field-based assignments include observing and assisting in classrooms and microteaching for courses such as EDTE408 Principles of Teaching and Learning, EDTE 417 Teaching Reading in the Secondary Content Areas, EDTE418 Methods for Teaching Beginning Reading, EDTE228 Strategies for Educating Exceptional and Diverse Learners, and EDTE425 Multi-grade/Multi-age Education, all of which have a field experience component. There are also courses that help candidates to develop skills and experience specifically relevant to their content areas. HIST459 Special Methods in Teaching History and Social Studies is a practicum that emphasizes methods, materials, and techniques of teaching history in grades 7-12. In this course, candidates get practice in evaluating and using textbooks, preparing effective quizzes and exams, using audio-visual materials for more effective teaching, and creating appropriate lesson plans. There is a similar course for Elementary Social Studies candidates, EDTE447 Elementary Social Studies and Character Education Methods, in which time is spent in classrooms. During the summer intensive that all candidates take before they begin student teaching, EDTE480 First Days of School Experience, candidates spend at least 30 hours in the classroom where they will student teach, working with the classroom teacher to prepare for the beginning of the school year. Student teachers in the History, Political Science, and Social Studies programs are assigned to classrooms in their subject area. Where practical, assignments are made to allow the student teacher to practice both his major and his minor. For example, a History major with a minor in English may be placed where he can teach secondary history most of the day along with one secondary English class. On the elementary level, student teachers are placed in a multi-subject classroom that includes their specialty area. The student teaching experience enhances candidates abilities to teach in their subject area in several ways. The student teacher works closely with the mentor teacher in that subject area. This enables him/her to observe strategies the mentor teacher uses and to practice using these strategies under the supervision of the mentor teacher, receiving timely feedback on the effectiveness of the teaching. The student teacher is observed several times during the semester by a university supervisor who is a specialist in the subject area (History, Political Science, or Social Studies). 123Bsv % & * T X f : \ ? @ uͼppbbTbhaCJOJQJ^JaJh>CCJOJQJ^JaJ h Oh OCJOJQJ^JaJh OCJOJQJ^JaJ h OhiuCJOJQJ^JaJhiuCJOJQJ^JaJh{CJOJQJ^JaJ h{h{CJOJQJ^JaJ h{hK.CJOJQJ^JaJh>5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h: h>5CJOJQJ^JaJ 23 C D novwgd> uvQŴ h Oh OCJOJQJ^JaJ h Oh>CCJOJQJ^JaJhaCJOJQJ^JaJh>CCJOJQJ^JaJh OCJOJQJ^JaJ21h:pK./ =!"#$% j 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~ OJPJQJ_HmH nH sH tH H`H >Normal OJPJQJ^J_HmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List PK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
